How are the TriPokalon tournaments structured?

The airing of XY060 gave us viewers a full view of the Tripokalan tournaments, which was a huge mystery to many of us until the airing of the episode. The little details - such as judging, how each round is structured - revealed itself. Currently, all of the TriPokalon tournaments that are being show in the anime are the Rookie Class tournaments. Preliminary round - Theme Performance:

During this portion of the TriPokalon....

- Participants are randomly assigned into a 3-person group. Within the group, participants will compete against each other.
- The theme performance is predetermined by each individual Tripokalon tournament ahead of time; participants should be ready to accomplish tasks that correspond with the announced theme.
- Participants have ten minutes to prepare their partner Pokemon in accordance with the theme. Some activities that performers may do includes grooming, dressing up, decorating, etc.
- After time is up, each performer will then have the opportunity to walk on stage to display the theme performance they did with their partner Pokemon.
- The audience will then choose the performer who had the best theme performance. The top-performing participant in the theme performance from each group will then advance to the General Freestyle Performance


General Freestyle Performance Round:

Participants who have won the preliminary rounds in their respective groups then go on to perform in the General Freestyle Performance Round. At this point...

- Performers can perform any routine that they have prepared for this part of the competition.
- In addition, they will be competing against all the performers who have advanced from the preliminary rounds.
- Performers can use up to 6 Pokemon (essentially a full party) as part of their routine.
- At the conclusion of all of the performances, audience members will then choose the performer who had the best freestyle performance. The performer who wins this portion of the competition wins the entire tournament, and is awarded the Princess Key

What is the prize for winning a TriPokalon tournament?

The winner of the TriPokalon tournament will receive a Princess Key. Performers who win 3 tournaments - 3 Princess Keys - will then be eligible to participate in the Master Class TriPokalon tournament. Of course, the one performer who wins the Master Class tournament will be crowned the Kalos Queen.

A note about judging:

Currently in the Rookie Class TriPokalon tournaments, the audience members serve as judges, determining which performer advances frm the preliminary round as well as determining the winner of the General Freestyle Performance portion (and the winner of the tournament itself). As of now, there is no information out there about how the Master Class Tripokalon tournament is judged.

I pretty much think that'll be the way it goes, though I would hope for Serena to be the one that wins XD

I hope Serena wins. Look! Even Serena agrees with me. xD

Tbh I hope she will win but her Skiddo race somewhat decreased that chance. If she lost that race than after loosing to Shauna, Trevor and Tierno and later in Pokémon Showcase would put her in loosing streak. But after XY053 it has been broken.

Here are my thoughts to the actual outcome of the TriPokalon in XY060. Actually, I see two possible outcomes:

1. Serena makes it all the way to the Freestyle Performance round, but loses at some point (either in the semis or the finals). IMO this is probably the likely outcome, and thus will help further her development as a performer.

2. Serena goes all the way to the finals and wins her first TriPokalon. This would be sweet if it happened. However, this might be somewhat OOC from the writers (since they have a history of making main characters lose any sort of competition they partake in the first time around); this could be compensated for by having Serena experience some sort of a TriPokalon "drought" (where she experiences some difficulties with her later performances and doesn't win any TriPokalons for some time)

On another note, I included another possible (alternative) structure for the Freestyle Performance portion, one where all of the finalist performers compete in one big round and the best performer out of the finalist performers wins the round and thus the TriPokalon event.

I don't think that would be OOC from writers. When May in Hoenn GF got to the top 8 and in the Kanto GF top 4 and after that Dawn in Sinnoh GF got to the second place, a lot of May fans considered this trolling. I don't think we should exclude a possibility of Serena winning her first Showcase.

Some new info from a newly announced episode.

Title: XY064 - Fennekin VS Delphox! A Gorgeous Performance Battle!!

Summary: "Serena ends up going really hard on Fennekin and Pancham while training for a tournament."

Now with all of that said, it can be strongly assumed at this point that Serena will not do well in her debut in XY060 (she will get eliminated at some point). The result is that she decides to train harder, but doesn't realize that not going about it the right way will result in negative consequences.

Thoughts?

That sounds the most likely outcome. It is a surprise that she tries too hard though. Doesn't seem like her. Then again, in her determination, she probably goes out of track. Maybe Ash pulls her up in that episode?

Tbh I would prefer if Serena won that performance. If would look with with Ash, who almost at the same time the gym battle. But that episode decreases her chances.

IMO they are pursuing Serena's Tripokelon's similar to how they pursued Ash's training. There was a time where he pushed his Pokemon too hard. I am pretty certain that Ash would talk to her about it in that episode. Or at least, we know that they are handling her in a way that is similar to how they handled Ash.

They are after all very keen on pushing the point across that Pokemon should be treated well and in a friendly manner rather than as battling machines.

Makes me wonder what would it be like if people like me and PotSmuggle ever made it to the Pokemon world :p We would be arrested and hung for Pokemon cruelty with all the IV breeding, releasing and stuff xD

And after she realizes it, becomes distraught, apologizes to her Pokémon and goes home, and Ash follows, triggering the Clemont Gym arc.

Serena doesn't seem like someone who'd release her frustrations on her Pokémon, but I guess people with enough anger in their system can do crazy things. With the implication that her design could potentially change before XY062, things may start going downhill soon after her apparent loss.

And yet her redesign doesn't seem as drastic as originally thought. Anyway, a four episode gap before she gets knocked back into her senses, and gets to know that pushing her Pokemon won't work. I hope Ash is the one who at least comments on that.

Anyway, it really beats me on how they plan to handle her redesign.

XY060 preview is out!



So apparently in the sunset scene where she's alone with her Pancham and Fennekin, she has a pair of scissors in her hand and is about to do something to her hair....

So it does look like she does look her first TriPokalon and it hits her hard in many ways more than one...

I have to say, I am not happy at the way the redesign was pulled off. To me it seems like a pretty bad reason to cut off her hair. However...however, it seems like she said to Ash in this episode that she wouldn't fail him or something after she finished registering for her Tripokelon. Perhaps that was one of the many reasons that she was so upset?

I don't know, and I don't care as long as this short hair isn't permanent.

Nope. i really don't think there's any point of holding our hopes that she doesn't actually cut her hair there anymore. The intention is very clear. But like I said, this increases the likelihood that she will regrow her hair eventually. And on the bright side, it will look slightly like the hairstyle she sported back at the summer camp when she was a kid

Maybe she will be redesigned ocassionally. We'll see a redesign and than we'll judge. pokesrini. How did you figure out that Serena told she won't fail to Ash and she was upset, because she felt like she did.

I sincerely hope so. While I may not mind the short haired Serena for a while, i really don't think I would like it for the long run.

As to your question Virgo, she told Ash in the first scene of XY059, the moment she finished registering for her Tripokelon, that she wouldn't fail him. The rest is speculation.

Let's take it one step at a time, shall we? Multiple redesigns might actually invoke opposite reactions from viewers (and for the record, I may not be so fond of that lol. Once is enough)

Anyhow, the second XY059 preview came out last night on Pokemon GetTV, and there's nothing new to report. Well, except a couple of new random CotDs with their Pokemon dressed for the Tripokalon in various manners.

Fantastic work WillDaSnail. I love the detail you have added to it. Tripokelons are actually quite nice to watch. I also want to know who that old lady was looking for in that Showcase.

Thanks dood! We'll find out why the writers decided to include Yashio into the series. All we know right now is that she was apparently a past Kalos Queen...

Anyhow, for those interested, Serena will likely be using a different outfit for the next Tripokalon tournament she partakes in. This time, she's going with a marching band theme (this was also seen in the preview, albeit briefly). Thoughts?
